COMPANY
A company that looks to the past is a company of the future
Our Company today
Today, the ancient farm is a modern company that has never rejected its traditions and history.
Now it has a total area of 80 hectares, distributed according to its production needs: 50 hectares of vineyards, 5 hectares of olive groves, and the remaining land for mixed cropping that is typical of the Abruzzo landscape. Besides the old farmhouse that was renovated to make room for offices, the symbol of the new business management, there are other buildings housing the display case area, the tasting room, the bottling room and the aging cellar.
Our philosophy
The strong motivation and the desire to characterize his production have marked Camillo Montori’s path from the outset, making the company known beyond the borders of the Abruzzo region. Between “Tradition and Innovation” the amazing “bottaia” and the new technological systems perfectly reflect the production philosophy of Camillo Montori. Therefore next to the traditional Slavonian oak barrels, there is a modern stainless steel winemaking tower: past, present and future coexist.
The cellar
Camillo Montori believes that the bond linking history, the farming knowledge, the environmental conditions, the grape variety and men are the only things turning his wine into a manifestation of originality, naturalness and charm
Montori selection includes not only the DOC wines typical of Abruzzo, but also wines made from local grape varieties, which give prominence to the uniqueness of our territory and highlight the strong connection with our winemaking tradition; FONTE CUPA vineyards include wines produced in particular vintages, when favourable weather conditions brought out the excellent characteristics of grapes.
HISTORY
Montori's golden whites and reds
Giuseppe Montori
The Montori family has long been committed to agriculture and then has come out on top as part of a cultured tradition. The nobility of the family is documented from the 17th century
in Campli and then extended to Torano and Colonnella. In the mid-19th century, knight and lawyer Giuseppe Montori demonstrated his commitment in the wine sector as the President of the Ampelographic Commission and took up a prominent public position in the agricultural policy in the Teramo area as the President of the agrarian rally.
Camillo Montori’s father, who was a lawyer in Ascoli, ends up managing the family estates, thus influencing the future business of his son.
Camillo Montori
Between the ‘60s and the ‘70s he focused himself and his company on innovative research in order to build an identity to his products, becoming receptive to the challenge of quality and excellence. In the late ’70s and early’ 80s, the company’s identity was established by intentionally choosing to operate in the niche of the white Trebbiano. This led to the production of the excellent white Fonte Cupa. Through its accurate brand image and product Montori reveals the secrets and the strategies of the rural aristocracy’s originality. The same logic of typical naturalness preservation is also applied to red wines, which require more technological intervention, by using the fermenter system for spontaneous fermentation at controlled temperature only.
That’s not all; Camillo Montori basically promoted appreciation for his land, obtaining DOC designation for his Controguerra and then DOCG label for Montepulciano d’Abruzzo delle Colline Teramane. Moreover, he was the first to apply the sparkling process to Trebbiano and Pecorino variety grapes.
TERRITORY
A Doc land
LE COLLINE TERAMANE
Our land
The Tronto river cuts through the hilly towns around Teramo and those in the province of Ascoli Piceno. It is a natural border between the Abruzzo and Marche regions and represents a bookmark rather than a real boundary marker. The landscape here is the result of two overlapping environmental systems. The first is characterized by flat plains while the latter features hills overlooking the Adriatic coast.
DOC and DOCG
The hills around Teramo have very favourable pedoclimatic conditions. It is not by accident that the “Colline Teramane” area has been awarded the prestigious DOCG label. It is here that Camillo Montori’s company operates at the forefront.
The vineyards
Montepulciano d’Abruzzo takes over, with approximately 26 hectares. About 10 hectares are devoted to Trebbiano while the remaining land is equally distributed among Pecorino, Passerina, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet.
